Qa'ini, Sharaf al-Din

   'Ala al-Din Khalji's finance minister Sharaf al-Din Qa'ini held the position of a deputy wazir.He enforced the uniform assessment of land revenue based on measure-ment, together with the grazing and dwelling taxes, over a vast area. Qa'ini is also credited with strict measures to eliminate bribery and embezzlement. During 'Ala al-Din's illness in 1315, Qa'ini came to be perceived by Malik Kafur, the na'ib, as a threat to his position. The na'ib prevailed upon the ailing sultan to have Qa'ini executed.
